How long do people spend at the Museum of Science?

You can spend an hour to a whole day—it depends on how you experience the museum. For first time visitors we recommend allowing at least two hours to explore the museum and an additional hour if you plan to see a film in the Omnitheater. If you plan to eat in the museum, don’t forget to allow time for that as well.

Can you bring food into the California Science Center?

The Science Center permits guests to bring their own food and enjoy eating outside or inside. However, the on-site dining options include the Trimana Grill, Market, and Coffee Bar.

How long does it take to go through the California Science Center?

Allow 3 to 4 hours after you get inside – longer if you’re geeky curious or if you want to see an IMAX film or a special California Science Center exhibit.

What age is appropriate for Exploratorium?

No, our exhibits can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Some exhibits and programs are best appreciated by adults while others are very popular with kids and toddlers. And every Thursday night After Dark (ages 18+) offers thoughtful and innovative science, arts, and perceptual experiences.

Why is the Exploratorium closed?

Exploratorium, the waterfront science and technology center along San Francisco’s Embarcadero, has been shuttered since the city’s first shelter-in-place order last year, closing its famed Tactile Dome for the first time in decades due to concerns over coronavirus transmission.
